Estimation of Economic Losses in Cacao Caused by Witch's Broom (Crinipellis Perniciosa) and Monilia (Monilia Roreri) in Small Farmers
Abstract
This research was carried out in the "Asociación El Deseo" located in the Milagro canton of the Guayas province, Ecuador, and which is part of the Union of Cocoa Peasant Organizations (UNOCACE). The objective was to estimate the benefit lost in cocoa above caused by the witches' broom (Crinipellis Perniciosa) y molilia (Monilia Roreri) diseases in the year 2022. The mixed method that integrates a quantitative and qualitative examination was used, the research type was documentary and descriptive, since the collection Data collection was carried out from a primary source at UNOCACAE. The association El Deseo had a total lost benefit of USD 45,854.22. It is concluded that in 2022 each producer lost an average of USD 1,042.14 due to the attack of the witch's broom and monilia, in the 44 families of said association; that is, the affectation was 35.9% of the total production and income in that year.
