Abstract

The catalytic activity of Pt/Ga2O3/Al2O3 catalysts by using n-butane dehydroisomerization under flow conditions at atmospheric pressure and 550°C was studied. These catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation of γ-Al2O3 with aqueous solutions of H2PtCl6.6H2O and Ga(NO3)3 to obtain a Pt content of 0.5 wt % and atomic Ga/Pt between 1 and 16. The catalysts were characterized by ICP, X-Ray diffraction, N2 adsorption, H2 chemisorption, temperature programmed reduction (TPR), FTIR of adsorbed CO and 1-butene isomerization. XRD patterns indicated that gallia was highly disperse on alumina, meanwhile TPR results showed a weak interaction between Pt and Ga. Gallia addition decreased H/Pt ratio and the intensity of CO infrared bands, indicating a blocking of surface Pt atoms by gallia and electronics interactions Pt-Ga. The selectivity toward dehydroisomerization and the butenes product distribution did not change significantly. These facts suggest that the Brönsted acid site are necessary in the support to promote isomerization reactions, which are not produced on Lewis’s acids sites from alumina.
