The role of entrepreneurship and information and communication technologies in the development of rural economies in Mexico: an approach

Keywords: rural economies, information and communication technologies, development

Abstract

The purpose of this work is to analyze the role that entrepreneurship initiatives and information and communication technologies (ITCs) play in the rural economies of Mexico. Both variables complement each other and are relevant, together with others, in the purpose of promoting development. The study is justified from the perspectives of academia and the opportunity to achieve potential, given that in these regions the greatest socioeconomic lags, abandonment and migration to other locations and abroad are noted. The method used is fundamentally descriptive and the data comes from the following sources: National Survey on Availability and Use of ICTs in Homes (ENDUTIH) of 2022, the National Agricultural Survey of Mexico with data from 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2019, as well as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development of 2020 on an annual basis. The results show a gradual growth trend in the case of entrepreneurship, as well as in the use of ICTs in these regions. It concludes with the need to implement promotion policies, but in addition to the private and community initiatives referred to for its modernization.
