Abstract

A 54 year old male patient from Mara Municipality, Zulia State, who had been bitten by an insect
and presented manifestations of clinical acute pancreatitis, was admitted to a hospital. During
convalescence of the pancreatitis it had been produced generalized tonic-clonic convulsions which
required hospitalization. During the in-hospital evolution loss of muscle force and sensibility in
lower body members developed. The possible etiological scorpion puncture of the genus Tityus
was suggested based on the possible physiological-pathological mechanisms that would explain
these posterior neurological manifestations in the case of a scorpion encounter.
