Abstract

Two neotropical species of aquatic coleoptera are reviewed in Venezuela, Suphisellus simoni Régimbart, 1889 and S. grammopterus Régimbart, 1889. It was found that in the genital characters of the female, the gonocoxa has a serrated latero-dorsal margin with a thick and sharp lobe in the apex, a gonocoxoventritus with two evidently unequal apodemas, the VIII ventricle is simple, unmodified, the IX ventricle in the male specimen is fringed with long hairs at the apex and the surface of the abdo-minal ventritus VII is bidepress (lateral depression: one at each side). When reviewing the metatibial spur, it was found that it is serrated at the apex. These morphological characters are not part of the systematics of the genus Suphisellus; Rather, they coin-cide with the classification of the genus Jolyssellus García and Jiménez, 2019. Based on this argument, they are extracted from the genus Suphisellus and determined as Jolyssellus simoni (Régimbart, 1889) comb. nov. and Jolyssellus grammopterus (Ré-gimbart, 1889) comb. Nov. respectively. Ventral and genital sclerites of both sexes in both species are illustrated.
