Abstract

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is by no means a neutral tool; rather, it is an epistemic field traversed by a set of relationships between knowledge and power that have multidimensional effects on cognitive, political, and ideological dimensions. Given this reality, the objective of this research is to analyze the relationship between knowledge and power in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) as a strategy aimed at cognitive development, to understand how discursive and symbolic processes affect the construction of knowledge and the self-management of thought. To achieve this general  objective, a critical  hermeneutic methodology  was used, based on the interpretation of documentary sources. The findings allow us to conclude that NLP facilitates the formation of more critical and autonomous individuals, although it can also be used in situations of symbolic manipulation if its objectives and rationale are not controlled. Therefore, the power of NLP lies in what we might call its “creative ambiguity,” since, depending on the context, it can become a tool for liberation or a method of emotional and cognitive control for hegemonic purposes.
