Higher education, in this context, has been undergoing technological, economic, and social advancements and transformations, engaging students, the next generation, and the guarantors of academic and scientific ecosystems. In this framework, human and artificial intelligence converge and complement each other's tools and content. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is useful in the development, monitoring, and management of knowledge and ideas, including the creation of personalized content, task automation, and immediate feedback. Furthermore, it involves the analysis of large amounts of descriptive data, the systematic generation of logical structures, and the creation of content and frameworks that allow for the comparison of data and content, along with the statistical procedures that support publication. In short, it contributes to the process of presenting and arguing articles.
Luz Maritza Reyes de Suárez Copyright (c) 2025 Luz Maritza Reyes de Suárez https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44978 Sat, 20 Dec 2025 17:56:13 +0000 Consumption of minerals and trace elements in children and adolescents and the components of the metabolic syndrome http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44980
Minerals and trace elements are essential micronutrients for the human body. The main objective of this research study was to evaluate the consumption of minerals and trace elements in children and adolescents with components of metabolic syndrome (MS). Materials and methods: A descriptive field study with a correlational analytical approach was conducted, evaluating 269 participants. Mineral and trace element intake was assessed through structured dietary interviews, which provided detailed information about eating habits and preferences, as well as food consumption frequency. The SPSS statistical package for Windows version 21 was used to analyze the results. Results: In this study, 59% of the children and adolescents evaluated showed more than three criteria for MS; overall energy and macronutrient intake was normal to low, high in sodium, low in calcium and potassium, high in iron and zinc, but low in manganese, iodine, and copper. Furthermore, the association between MS components and mineral and trace element intake was statistically significant and direct between phosphorus and blood pressure (SBP and DBP), between sodium and the criteria: CC, SBP, and DBP. However, the relationship was inverse between zinc and TAG and between magnesium and CC. Conclusions: Inadequate consumption of minerals and trace elements may predispose children and adolescents to developing components of MS.
Luisandra González Inciarte, Aida Souki Rincón, Marianais Urbina Sánchez, Rebeca Blanco Rincón, Doris García Camacho, Gabriel Ruiz Copyright (c) 2025 Luz Maritza Reyes de Suárez; Luisandra González Inciarte, Aida Souki Rincón, Marianais Urbina Sánchez, Rebeca Blanco Rincón, Doris García Camacho, Gabriel Ruiz https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44980 Sat, 20 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Nutritional evaluation of type 2 diabetic adults prior to dietary treatment in the outpatient clinic http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44981
Diabetes is a chronic non-communicable disease, the main risk factor for which is obesity, which can lead to long-term macro- and microvascular
complications. The objective of this study was to characterize the comprehensive nutritional status upon admission to the outpatient nutrition clinic.
The sample consisted of 80 adults with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) who underwent anthropometric measurements (weight, height, BMI), biochemical measurements (metabolic and lipid profile), and dietary measurements (24-hour history). Student’s t-tests, chi-square tests, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient (p < 0.05) were used for statistical analysis. The highest prevalence was observed in women, aged 50-59 years, with a BMI of 31.61 ± 5.44 kg/
m2. Regarding the metabolic profile, blood glucose was 164.4 ± 67.9 mg/dl and HbA1c was 10.7 ± 1.7. The percentage of adequacy of the consumed diet
was high in calories, fat, and carbohydrates. A correlation was found between BMI and calories and carbohydrates (r = 0.438; p = 0.000), and between
cholesterol and carbohydrates (r = 0.318; p = 0.004). It is concluded that these subjects with T2DM presented malnutrition due to excess, with metabolic
imbalance associated with high consumption of fats and carbohydrates, which justified their nutritional intervention.
Patricia Becerra Perdomo, Hazel Ester Anderson Vásquez Copyright (c) 2025 Patricia Becerra Perdomo, Hazel Ester Anderson Vásquez https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44981 Sun, 21 Dec 2025 01:06:08 +0000 Purified Polyphenol Extracts in the Treatment of Osteopenia http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44982
Various studies have established the effects of polyphenols at the cellular level and their involvement in the body's regulatory mechanisms. Their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties offer benefits for bone health by modulating processes such as cell apoptosis, although the intrinsic mechanisms remain under investigation. This study aims to summarize the positive effects of polyphenols on calcium homeostasis in bone. Searches were conducted in the PubMed, Scielo, and Elsevier databases using the keywords “polyphenols,” “osteopenia,” and “oxidative stress.” Studies in English and Spanish published between 2012 and 2022 that proposed polyphenol-based therapies for osteoarticular pathologies and osteopenia were included. The inclusion criteria were: peer-reviewed studies, full text access, and thematic relevance. Opinion articles and isolated clinical cases were excluded. The selection was carried out in three stages: analysis of titles and abstracts, full evaluation, and data collection in comparative tables. VOSviewer software was used to identify trends. It is concluded that, although the underlying mechanisms are under investigation, there is growing evidence of the efficacy of polyphenols in in vitro and in vivo studies, representing a therapeutic alternative in the management of osteopenia.
Soanna M Vílchez R Copyright (c) 2025 Soanna M Vílchez R https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44982 Sun, 21 Dec 2025 04:00:40 +0000 Prevalence of obstetric complications in pregnant teenagers treated at the provincial general teaching hospital of Riobamba http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44985
Obstetric complications are pathological condi- tions that arise during gestation, with their inciden- ce being primarily elevated by advanced maternal age and specific physiological characteristics. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalen- ce of obstetric complications among pregnant ado- lescents. This documentary research, employing a deductive scientific method, quantitative approach, and a correlational, retrospective design, focused on determining the prevalence of obstetric compli- cations in a sample of 128 pregnant adolescents at- tended at the Hospital Provincial General Docente de Riobamba - Ecuador, in 2021. The results indi- cated that 78,12% of the pregnant adolescents ex- perienced complications; of these, 63,28% received a single hospital care intervention, 31,25% required two interventions, and 5,47% attended three quar- terly follow-up visits, with 53,28% of these patients being in the third trimester of pregnancy. Among the total complications, 29,93% were preterm labor without delivery, 12,41% were threatened abortion, and 9,49% were pyelonephritis; association analy- sis revealed a strong correlation between these complications and comorbidities such as anemia, urinary tract infection, vaginal infection, diabetes, and hypertension. In conclusion, the most prevalent obstetric complications were preterm labor without delivery, threatened abortion, and pyelonephritis, with their occurrence being closely associated with conditions such as anemia, urinary tract infection, vaginal infection, diabetes, and hypertension.

José Marcelo Ortiz-Jiménez, Carlos Iván Peñafiel-Méndez, Ana Carolina González-Romero, María del Carmen Cordovéz-Martínez, Lizbeth Tatiana Zuñiga-Echeverria Copyright (c) 2025 José Marcelo Ortiz-Jiménez, Carlos Iván Peñafiel-Méndez, Ana Carolina González-Romero, María del Carmen Cordovéz-Martínez, Lizbeth Tatiana Zuñiga-Echeverria https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44985 Mon, 22 Dec 2025 00:52:56 +0000 Loneliness and family disconnection: impact on cognitive decline in older adults. http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44984
In Latin America, rapid population aging increases mental health challenges for older adults, especially given the risk of depression and cognitive decline.

Exacerbated by socioeconomic crises such as that in Venezuela, these are crucial factors that aggrava- te this problem. This research project analyzed the relationship between family disconnection and cog- nitive decline in adults over 60 years of age at the Club de Abuelos Historias Doradas in Maracaibo, Zulia, who experience involuntary social isolation. A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, field study was conducted with 30 participants, excluding cases of advanced dementia. Surveys were administered using Google Forms, the APGAR Scale assessed family disconnection, the shortened version of the UCLA Scale measured loneliness, and a pilot tool based on the Mini-Mental State Examination scree- ned for cognitive functional impairment. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel. The results showed that 43.4% were between 60 and 69 years old and 80% were women. Forty-five percent reported fa- mily dysfunction, 30% lacked emotional support, and 56.7% had functional cognitive impairment. In conclusion, family disconnection and unchosen lo- neliness are critical factors in cognitive impairment in older adults.
Rider S. Soto-Ramones, Zulimar C. Suarez-Mendoza, Miguel A. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of intraperitoneal tramadol and bupivacaine for postoperative pain following abdominal surgery between October 2023 and September 2024. Methodology: Descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative study. The sample comprised 30 patients divided into Group 1 (n=15) who received intraperitoneal tramadol 1mg/kg. Group 2 (n=15) patients who received intraperitoneal bupivacaine 1mg/kg. Results: The sociodemographic characteristics of the tramadol group and the bupivacaine group showed an average age of 20.5 + 4.8 years and 40.5 + 5.4 years, respectively, with the same number of patients for both sexes, predominantly ASA II classification at 56.6%. Bupivacaine proved to be effective for postoperative pain management, with 60% of patients experiencing moderate pain intensity (4-6 points). In the tramadol group, 80% had moderate pain (4-6 points). The adverse effects identified were nausea in 80% of the tramadol group, compared to 13.33% in the bupivacaine group. Conclusion: The findings suggest that intraperitoneal administration of bupivacaine is more effective for postoperative pain management in abdominal surgery and has fewer adverse effects than tramadol.
Yenireth Lunar, Maidee Esis, Nidia Devonish Copyright (c) 2025 Yenireth Lunar, Maidee Esis, Nidia Devonish https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44987 Mon, 22 Dec 2025 01:33:53 +0000 The artistic reflection journal as a tool for improving professional skills to become a speech http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44988
The training of speech therapists requires the development of not only technical skills, but also self-knowledge and self-observation skills to de- monstrate their best qualities to their patients. This study explores the effectiveness of using an Artis- tic Reflection Journal as a pedagogical strategy to improve the professional profile of students in these areas, as observed in the art therapy curri- cular unit. A quantitative study was conducted with a descriptive and comparative approach. The me- thodology consisted of implementing the journal for one semester with 93 students in this curricular unit, comparing the journal’s evaluation and their overall grade for the subject with statistical analysis. The results analyzed express a significant statistical re- lationship and a direct positive correlation (p < 0.05; r = 0.44) between the evaluation of the artistic re- flection journal and the overall grade in the art the- rapy subject, which demonstrates that the journal is not only a complementary activity, but an efficient and fundamental tool for learning. It is concluded that the artistic reflection journal is a valuable tool for cultivating self-awareness and emotional ma- nagement, crucial elements of clinical practice. The findings suggest that this pedagogical strategy complements theoretical and clinical training, stren- gthening fundamental competencies for the speech therapist.
Marcela Correaz Copyright (c) 2025 Marcela Correaz https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44988 Mon, 22 Dec 2025 02:21:52 +0000 Evaluation of the dynamics of the Venezuela-Colombia trade balance: application of unit root tests http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44989
Between January and April 2025, Venezuelan exports to Colombia suffered a sharp contraction, despite bilateral trade growing by 24.7% compared to the same period in 2024. This study evaluated the dynamics of the trade balance between the two countries between 1995 and 2024 using unit root econometric tests (Augmented Dickey-Fuller, Phi- llips-Perron, and Ng-Perron) applied to the annual series of the Venezuelan trade balance. The results indicate that the series is not stationary at levels, but is stationary after initial differentiation, indicating that the trade deficit is persistent over time. This re- flects that the imbalances are not the result of tem- porary fluctuations, but rather of structural factors such as the loss of competitiveness and Venezue- la’s weak production. The absence of an automatic reversion to equilibrium suggests that internal and external shocks have had lasting effects on the bi- lateral trade balance. This pattern underscores the need for long-term policies that address the struc- tural causes of the deficit, promoting production incentives, bilateral cooperation, and continuous monitoring mechanisms. The findings pave the way for future cointegration research to analyze the rela- tionship between the trade balance and key macro- economic variables.
Leobaldo Molero, Esmeralda Villegas, Sara Musio, Leonardo Luzardo Copyright (c) 2025 Leobaldo Molero, Esmeralda Villegas, Sara Musio, Leonardo Luzardo https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44989 Mon, 22 Dec 2025 03:45:41 +0000 Limitations in digital press language in Maracaibo and its impact http://www.produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/redieluz/article/view/44990
This article examines linguistic performance in three Maracaibo digital news sites (La Verdad, Versión Final, Noticia al Día) and how it affects clarity, accuracy, and credibility. A purposive sample of 60 stories published January–June 2025 (20 per out- let) was coded in headlines and leads across five categories: generic/impersonal verbs; value-laden adjectives; subjective -ly adverbs; punctuation lapses (commas, quotation marks, all caps); and infla- ted or non-faithful structural formulas. Frequencies were tabulated and illustrative cases were anno- tated with edited rewrites. Results show heavy re- liance on imprecise action verbs and institutional booster adjectives; punctuation problems cluster in quick crime briefs. Comparison with style guidance (RTVE, FundéuRAE, AP, BBC) and fact-checking frameworks supports ten low‑cost editorial fixes: verb red-lists, adjective trims, data-driven headline templates, quotation control, and routine source/ figure checks. Given the limited local information on sampling methods in these ephemeral habitats, the project sought to taxonomically identify aquatic insects to the order level, calculate their richness, and compare the effectiveness of both methods. To this end, sampling was carried out at two sites during June 2025, using three replicates with D-type nets and placing traps baited with tuna. In total, 1,302 individuals were collected, distributed across five orders and 24 morphospecies. The entomological net captured a greater number of specimens (92.79%), especially dipteran larvae, odonate nymphs, and mayflies, while the traps showed greater abundance (20 morphospecies) and diversity, with coleoptera and hemiptera predominating. No statistically significant differences in overall effectiveness were observed, highlighting the importance of combining both methods for a more complete inventory. Thus, it is concluded that these pools represent suitable environments for methodological testing and that the combined use of D-type nets and bait traps optimizes the capture of aquatic entomological diversity. The study provides a crucial methodological reference for future research in aquatic entomology in urban areas of Venezuela.
Ana Atencio-Paz, Ninoska Villa, , Alfredo D.
