The Materiality of the Screen: Evolution of the Medium and Reconfiguration of the Audiovisual Experience

This research analyzes the diachronic evolution of the screen as a material support, and its reorganization of the audiovisual experience. Through a historical-comparative method and a theoretical corpus that includes McLuhan (1996), Postman (1998), and Manovich (2001), among others, it demonstrates that the transition from cinema to the smartphone implies an ontological mutation, progressively moving from collective contemplation to personal, and intimate interaction. The results reveal the emergence of an aesthetic natural selection of the audiovisual, where
only formats adapted to contemporary technologies survive, thereby consolidating a laconic aesthetics. It concludes that this development represents a paradoxical cultural negotiation: a gain in individual agency versus the loss of symbolic public space, and deep attention.

However, it also raises significant ethical challenges related to privacy, misinformation, and data manipulation. Through practical examples, the text reflects on how to balance technological efficiency with democratic authenticity, emphasizing the need for a regulatory framework to ensure transparency and trust in electoral processes.

The communication theory presented in this article synthesizes the doctoral thesis "Peace Discourse from Community Radio in Times of the Colombian Post-Conflict" from the University of Zulia (Venezuela). It presents an experience of social dialogue mediated by community radio stations and extended beyond the medium's technical coverage to build a collective fabric and foster a culture of peace. A qualitative-quantitative approach was applied, using a documentary and exploratory design.
The observations, interviews, and surveys conducted with the radio stations made it possible to determine the editorial line conducive to promoting civic culture and conflict resolution. Therefore, it represents a new contribution to previous theories on social communication models that refer to the linear relationship of discourse, including the
contextualization of the message and its psychosocial impacts, up to feedback and transformational effects, which do not exceed its concentric scope

Semiótica de la tensión: códigos icónicos, categorías estéticas y figuras retóricas en la fotografía zuliana contemporánea

This research aims to semiotically analyze the photographic text of six contemporary Zulia artists (Beto Frangiéh, Gustavo Bauer, Fernando Bracho, Alejandro Vásquez, Audio Cepeda, and Gipsy Rangel), identifying their iconic codes, rhetorical figures, and aesthetic categories. The methodology was based on content analysis utilizing an
analysis matrix applied to a total of 60 photographs. This matrix was underpinned by key references in visual semiotics, such as Barthes (1964, 1980, 1986), Eco (1976, 1980, 1990), Dubois (1992), and Groupe μ (1992). The findings reveal a map of aesthetic and identity tensions surrounding solidarity and social inequality. The corpus is polarized in the use of governing codes between an aesthetic of formal control that seeks universal status and one of environmental authenticity that asserts a militant territorial identity. It is concluded that the analyzed corpus is defined by the struggle between the global projection of individual talent and the testimony rooted in local memory, utilizing the strategic manipulation of the luminous and spatial codes as the fundamental mechanism of signification.

Obstáculos epistemológicos y representaciones semióticas en pre-saberes de trigonometría: un enfoque de superación desde el Modelo BARRISO

In teaching mathematics, and particularly trigonometry, it is essential to build on students' prior knowledge, as this allows learning to be guided and avoids the simple repetition of knowledge already acquired. However, practice often privileges the mechanical execution of exercises focused on the routine application of algorithms over problem solving, which requires comprehension, analysis, and decision-making. This tendency hinders the identification of conceptual errors, as well as the challenges that arise when moving across different forms of mathematical representation, such as numerical, algebraic, graphical, or verbal. The present study aims to analyze students’ prior knowledge in trigonometry, identifying the epistemological obstacles that interfere with their understanding and evaluating the influence of semiotic representations on learning. The research is grounded in the theoretical contributions of Bachelard (1996) and Duval (1993), in articulation with the BARRISO model proposed by Barrios and Delgado (2025). Methodologically, a qualitative approach is adopted with a phenomenological and interpretive-descriptive design, focused on the analysis of graphic representations produced by 30 secondary school students while solving trigonometry problems. The results reveal persistent difficulties in graphical construction, evidenced by errors in assigning values, locating angles, and representing figures consistent with the problem statement. It is concluded that these difficulties stem from the presence of epistemological obstacles and limitations in semiotic conversion processes, which reveals the need for new teaching approaches or pedagogical strategies, such as the BARRISO model, to overcome these barriers and promote a more rigorous and meaningful mathematical understanding.
